Sax Slave

Summer 2024

Sophomore Album By AYEYOTY

Sax Slave, the second full album by AYEYOTY, builds on the foundation set by their debut, Black Kid Mantras (2021). While BKM delved into the necessary narratives of Black youth, weaving narrative-based sonic soliloquies that reconcile real-life stories, Sax Slave takes a more purely instrumental approach.

Centered around the alto saxophone, fondly referred to as "Princess," Sax Slave unfolds as a singular song broken into distinct movements. This album features guest contributions that collectively create a diasporic tapestry of contemporary soulful jazz. AYEYOTY's exploration of the saxophone's expressive potential results in a deeply immersive listening experience, showcasing a sophisticated evolution in their musical journey.

BLACK KID MANTRAS

The debut studio album by AYEYOTY was released in 2020. The contemporary jazz/soul album features the studio recording of WILD, a contender for state song of the year in 2021. Artists featured on the record include Karla Felecia Scaife, Andrew Meador, Kimmie J Soul, and moreBLACK KID MANTRAS. The album is sparked by childhood poetry colliding with adult-lived realities in the context of a 21st-century surveillance state embedded in political extremism and identity-based systems of value. Black Kid Mantras was recorded at Breaker 17 Studios and Dynamostudios in Chattanooga, TN.
